We will never change wire instructions by email.

Real estate closings are a common target for wire fraud. Here is how that works, what we do about it, and what you should do if something looks wrong.

Wire fraud alert

First Choice Title Associates will never change wire instructions by email.

Scammers impersonate title companies, real estate agents, and lenders by email and try to redirect closing funds into a fraudulent account. If you get an email claiming to be from us with new or changed wire instructions, do not act on it. Call our office directly at 305-599-3048, using a number you already have on file rather than one from the email, and confirm before sending anything.

Why closings are targeted

A real estate closing involves some of your most sensitive personal information: names, addresses, Social Security numbers, financial account details. That information is a real target for identity theft and fraud, and title and escrow companies handle it at nearly every step of a transaction.

What you can do

A few habits lower your risk during any real estate transaction.

  • Verify wire instructions by phone, using a number you already have, never one from an email.
  • Use unique, strong passwords for your email and financial accounts, especially while a transaction is active.
  • Be wary of any email or call pushing you to act urgently on payment details.

This is not a complete list. If anything about a communication feels off, call us before acting on it.

What we do

Before we act on any wire instructions, we verify them by phone. If instructions change, or look like they might have changed, we call to confirm before any funds move.
